I'm off to a new school year and found I have spent much of the summer reflecting, and sharing, some of the things I do within my classroom with others. My class is a
little a lot different than what you think a "class" looks like. To start, I will be teaching four grades this year, yes four! I will spend my days teaching kids to read, write, count, multiply, sing, speak, understand situations, catch a ball and simply talk to others. I will spend hours teaching others to be understanding without being judgemental, to be assertive but patient and to be helpful while being able to step back. I will be teaching a classroom of children with Autism.
I will teach their peers. I will teach staff. I will teach parents. I will teach myself....
I will teach my students.
Some pretty amazing things can happen in a classroom such as ours! Big accomplishments can be something as exciting as a student walking to the office and back on their own, a student saying "hi" to another student, a student starting to read for the first time or being able to sit in a chair at a table for more than thirty seconds, yes thirty seconds! As we go into a new school year, I have decided to share some of my tips, tricks, organization, thoughts and feelings on the things we do each day!!
Thanks to those of you who join us on our journey! Whether you stop and visit for a minute or hang around we are glad you have come to our little corner of the world!
